Bennett Assists Keppel FELS in Lift of Ocean Apex
May 17, 2016
HOUSTON, Texas – Bennett Offshore recently assisted Keppel FELS with engineering for a successful lift of Diamond Offshore’s Ocean Apex semisubmersible rig by the FELS Can Do Barge.
To satisfy ABS approval requirements for the lift, Bennett engineers evaluated the structural capacity of the Can Do barge using a combined finite element model of the two vessels. Bennett provided FELS with intact, transit, and damaged stability analyses for the lift as well as submerged damaged stability analyses for critical submerged phases of the lifting process.
On the day of the lift at the Keppel FELS shipyard in Singapore, the Can Do performed as predicted and the lifting operation was successful.
The Can Do is a semisubmersible barge and floating drydock with a lifting capacity of 30,000 MT. The Ocean Apex operates in water depths of up to 6,000 feet and has drilling depth capabilities of up to 30,000 feet.
